Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Will I be able to do this work?

A: Yes. There may be a learning curve to learn your unique way of perceiving and practicing be present with the sensations in the body.  Most people learn this quite quickly and we can learn as we go. I also have tools and techniques to help. One method is guided recorded processes to help you  in between sessions.

There is no wrong way to do this work. Whatever shows up is what we work with.

Q: Where do we start?

A: A good place to start is an initial consultation. This can give us both an idea if this approach is a good fit for you at this time. We can discuss what you are looking for and what method may be the best to start with.

Q: Is this work as effective online/phone versus in person?

A: Yes, I believe it is just as effective. In fact, it can feel more comfortable to complete this work in the safety of your own home/room. I think we all have a personal preference to online versus in person yet as long as one is open to online work - I find it equally as effective.

Q: How is Psycho-Shamanic work different from traditional Shamanic work?

A: I think this way of working allows individuals to take more personal empowerment in their own healing journey. Through this way of working, you will also learn how to do a type of shamanic process on your own.

I also think this approach allows for deeper integration. Integration is one aspect that we are learning in modern neuroscience as an aspect that depends healing in a more holistic way to support long term change in a safe way.

Check out this blog post for more information around the different types of Shamanic Work.

Q: How do safely do this work while engaging in Life? I have had experiences where I have left counselling sessions feeling exposed and felt triggered or anxious after the session.

A: I think it is an important question and there are many ways we can work with this. It does show up for a lot of people as they do deeper work - especially within our world right now which is a bit over stimulating and experiencing a lot of negativity with news/social media etc. I always try to end with a closure to protect against this as much as we can, however it can still happen due to the nature of the work. To support this we can discuss tools to work with different types of protection eg) protection that won't hold you back yet protect you from the outside world - does that make sense? One of the tools I often use is guided process recordings to support you at home. I have a few recordings that I have created to support with building resources to help in between sessions with these types of concerns eg) safety, protection. Part of this type of work is removing problematic ways we have learned to cope with the outside world and we can go through a phase of feeling a bit exposed as we learn new ways to cope/protect - but hopefully we can create enough resources to go through this transition with as much support and empowerment that it doesn't feel overwhelming.

I think I mentioned when we talked that I like to leave at least 45 minutes of the session for process work (eg. 10-15 check in at start of session and then the rest for deeper process, with a time at end to close) and this is why - because I think it is so important to end the session in a complete way and not leave it unfinished. I also schedule my sessions with 15 minutes between clients so if needed I go over the 60 minute session to ensure we are ending in a good place.

It can be one of those realities that sometimes deeper healing does feel worse before it gets better and I try to create a strong container so this process is supported as best as we can although it can still be challenging... yet rewarding :) I also make myself available after a session so if this does happen - we can connect over the phone for 10-15 minutes and talk about it and what might help. I find that most people who take me up on this find it really helpful and it can alleviate any feelings like this that can show up after a session.
